FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—March 18, 2024

Baltimore, MDJanet, Janet & Suggs, LLC, a Maryland-based national law firm focusing on sexual abuse, medical malpractice, and other personal injury claims, today announced that the Co-Chair of its Sexual Abuse Division, attorney Richard M. Serbin, has been honored by both The Legal Intelligencer’s 2024 Pennsylvania Legal Awards and the Pennsylvania Bar Association for lifetime achievement in the legal profession.

The Legal Intelligencer, through its 2024 Pennsylvania Legal Awards, is honoring Serbin with its Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding work in the legal community in Pennsylvania. Serbin will be honored at an awards dinner on May 15, 2024, at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel.

Additionally, Serbin has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) for outstanding achievement in the legal profession, as well as for 50 years of membership with the Association. Serbin and his fellow 50-year members will be honored at the PBA’s Annual Meeting and Awards Breakfast in Hershey, Pa., on May 10, 2024.

“We are proud that Richard is being recognized for his exceptional career as a nationally recognized legal expert fighting for the rights of victims that we have the honor to represent,” said Howard A. Janet, Managing Principal, Janet, Janet & Suggs, LLC. “Throughout his distinguished career, Richard has earned a well-deserved reputation as a crusader for survivors of sexual abuse. His tireless dedication, commitment, and experience have helped hundreds of survivors successfully secure settlements against their abusers.”

Serbin is the Co-Chair of the Sexual Abuse Division of Janet, Janet & Suggs, LLC. Since 1987, he has represented victims of sexual abuse, most often focused on clergy child molestation cases. He has represented child abuse survivors in claims against every diocese in Pennsylvania, as well as tried and won the first case in Pennsylvania against a diocese, bishop, and child predator. As a result, Hutchison v Luddy and the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown, et al., created a new law in the field of sexual abuse. It gave sexual assault survivors the right to bring a claim against the church for negligent retention and supervision of a pedophile priest, along with the right to recover punitive damages for the acts of covering up and moving known child predators to various other parishes.

Throughout his career, Serbin has successfully argued major cases in the Pennsylvania Superior and Supreme courts, which helped establish legal precedent in various areas of the law. Serbin is a graduate of The University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University School of Law.
