Xarelto Controversies

Since Xarelto was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the anti-coagulant has made over $2 billion for its manufacturers, Bayer Healthcare and Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. However, controversies have surrounded the drug from the start.

Clinical trials for Xarelto in 2011 evaluated 14,000 patients taking the new medication and compared the results to other anti-coagulants, such as warfarin. The results showed that Xarelto was in no way superior to other blood-thinning drugs and that it caused uncontrollable internal bleeding. However, the drug has been marketed as a superior drug with no mention of its deadly side effects.

In 2016, the FDA investigated Xarelto’s clinical trials and found that a recalled device used to monitor patients during the tests was faulty and yielded inaccurate results. Janssen Pharmaceuticals was accused of hiding data and concerns about potential errors from the device.

Those who have reported negative side effects from Xarelto have experienced internal hemorrhaging and irreversible blood flow. Unlike other anti-coagulants, there is currently no antidote that will reverse its effects. Doctors have no way to stop heavy blood flow caused by Xarelto.

If you or a loved one has suffered after taking Xarelto, you may be entitled to file a Xarelto lawsuit and seek compensation. Our attorneys are experienced in fighting for victims’ rights and will help you hold the manufacturers responsible.

Multidistrict Litigation Trials Set for Xarelto

Multiple Xarelto lawsuits have been filed against Bayer Healthcare and Johnson & Johnson claiming that:

  • Johnson & Johnson’s misled consumers by marketing Xarelto as a superior anti-coagulant.
  • Xarelto did not contain a warning that it may cause uncontrollable bleeding.
  • The medical community was not provided with an anti-dote or method to control Xarelto if complications occurred.

The claims will be processed through multidistrict litigation (MDL) and will include four trials. The first was set to begin in fall 2016. Contact our attorneys to learn more about filing a Xarelto lawsuit.
