I-95 School Bus Crash Sends 20 Students to Hospital

Posted on behalf of Janet, Jenner & Suggs on Jan 16, 2017 in Car Accident

school bus on its sideOn the afternoon of January 11th, a school bus transporting Ephraim Curtis Middle School students was struck by another vehicle, causing the bus to crash through an Interstate 95 guardrail and roll onto its side.

There were 24 passengers on the bus, including 22 students and the driver and monitor, but no one was seriously injured.

Ten students were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. The bus driver and monitor as well as 10 other students were transported to hospitals as a precaution.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene just before 1 p.m., but all the passengers had already escaped the wrecked bus.

The bus driver is a 54-year-old man who had already been involved in one accident, had five speeding tickets, and received citations for failing to stop and making an improper turn, according to the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles. At one point, his license was nearly revoked, but fines were paid to clear up the issue.

The bus company, First Student, claims the man had a clean driving record and has been licensed for bus driving since 2006.

An NBC Boston investigation of the driving records of 28 Massachusetts bus drivers and many state bus driving certificate letters show numerous bus drivers with roadway violations. Fifty percent of those observed had eight or more substantial infractions, such as accidents, license suspensions, cellphone use while driving and more.

When parents put their children on school buses they expect these vehicles to be driven by qualified people so their children will be safe. If your child was injured in a school bus accident, your family may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

The Boston bus accident lawyers of Janet, Jenner & Suggs will pursue your legal claim, working hard to recover fair compensation while holding responsible parties accountable for the harm they have inflicted on your child.
